Remembering Galen

on September 27th, 2017 by Rebeccca

We had talked about a funeral – Galen said he really didn’t care what we did. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do anything. At the time it seemed like a decision I wouldn’t have to make right away. Since then, friends have suggested that it is important to them to have a chance to reflect on his life. And now, seeing how many memories people have of Galen, I realize that I want to have a chance to hear some of those memories in an informal setting.

And since I have no idea how many of our friends may be coming, I decided on a potluck supper. This is how I picture the evening:

  • friends arrive with food and perhaps something for “show and tell”;
  • start the evening with a narrated slideshow of Galen’s life;
  • we fill our plates and, while we are eating, friends can share their stories, songs, poems, objects at an open mic;
  • say our goodbyes.

This will all take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Rosthern Mennonite Church basement (5th Street and 3rd Avenue) starting at 5:00 PM.

    We would love to remember Galen along with others and be there to hear the many wonderful memories and stories which will be shared. “Sadly”, we will be in Calgary doing the same thing for Larry’s youngest brother. May your time with family and friends be strengthening and comforting.

    Hi Rebecca! I think the gathering you are planning for Galen’s Farewell is a great idea.I am sorry that I will miss out on that occasion. I think it will bring closure to you and the many friends and relatives of Galen’s. It being the long weekend Jim (my son) will be coming to visit here in Regina. Karen and I plan to make a day trip to Rosthern one day before winter sets in to spend some time with you,your mom,Tom&Louise,etc.
    I will call you; hope we can make that work.
    Sending you Love, Irene

    Rebecca, I’m glad you are having a coming together with family and friends to remember Galen. It will be healing for you also. Hopefully we will be able to go when you have a time together in Oregon.
    May you have a blessed time together.

    We regret that we are unable to come. We have so many fond memories of hiking trails, touring Victoria and of course the Thickwood Hills group. Our thoughts and prayers are with you
