The Slippery Slope

on September 16th, 2017 by Rebeccca

Galen has been going downhill so fast I’m not sure what to post. About a week ago he began to have trouble lifting his right arm. For the last couple of days, he has had trouble speaking. Too weak to get the words out. He is still nauseated, in spite of getting a new nausea drug added to the cocktail he already takes.

He said tonight that he is just waiting for his sister to get here and then he wants to go. It would be a blessing if he could leave his body and be relieved of all the suffering.

Galen still appreciates visitors, so don’t be afraid to stop in and say hi.

Becky- wish I could wrap my arms around you both. This is unbelievable, esp to such a beautiful gracious man. Sad I’m too enmeshed with work right now to get away.
    When does his sister arrive?

    Love you both

Dear Rebecca and Galen, we are so grateful for your taking time to record your journey together, we learn so much about life from our friends. Your open-ness, sharing about how to keep going in spite of wanting to stop, as well as how friends can respond best to each other in times of need. We will be popping in in the next couple of days. Night night xxxx ( I hope you don’t end up with two posts- the first one vanished into cyberspace!)

I just found out about this and don’t know what to say. I’m angry that cancer even exists!!!! It is such a horrible disease. Reading these blogs really hurts! It is so upsetting knowing how much pain and agony he is in.

Galen was also one of my favorite cousins, such a kind gentle soul. He used to send me air mail from Botswana and I remember thinking that he was such a hero for helping these people. Galen is quite a bit older than me so I think I was 8 or so when he was in Botswana.

Please tell him that I’m thinking about him and will send my healing energies as his soul leaves his body. I, too, feel blessed to have known him.

    Love,

    Stacy

    Hi Galen and Becky,
Thinking of you so often since hearing the news about Galen’s condition. I have so many great memories as a child that you both are prominent in – xc skiing on your trails, potlucks afterwards, your home-made sauna, the trip up to Missinippi. I’m so grateful to have had the chance to visit last year at the lake. Galen took me around his workshop and taught me about blacksmithing. When I think of Galen I think of his artistry, his patience and kindness.
Sending much love and good thoughts to you both.
    Your friend,
    Daryl
