We’ve had an angel with us the last couple of days. He came Tuesday evening and left Friday afternoon. We didn’t realize he was an angel when he used to come spend time with us in the summer at Wood Hill when he was a child. Or when he lived with us one year in Victoria while he was going to university. Or was it really only for the winter but it felt like one year. Galen used to complain about the peanut butter that somehow was on every cupboard door handle, the shoes that were left in the middle of the hallway, the strange noises that came from the upstairs bedroom.
There were times when the angelic did shine through, like while he was doing dishes in the evening and singing in that glorious voice. Or when he flashed that smile that made all the young women melt.
So we feel totally blessed that our nephew, Kailer, would take time out of his vacation to come and spend time with us here. Sitting faithfully by Galen’s side, wiping the vomit off his beard, handing him the glass of water that he couldn’t quite reach. Driving to the hospital in the evening to pick up some medication that Galen requested (Galen calls it the red teeth, but at the hospital they called it pink lady – it’s a stomach protector like gaviscon with some high-powered numbing agent added to the top – like a shooter). Running to the grocery store to buy Gatorade. Going to our house and washing the dishes stacked on the counter and folding the clothes hanging on a rack. Sitting for hours pretending to enjoy watching the thousands of photos from our Round the World Trip slideshow.
Yes, Kailer, you have been an angel for us. And the peanut butter? Not a problem. I might just go home and spread some on the cupboard knobs to remind myself that you never know when you might be entertaining angels.

That is my son for sure you forgot to mention all the doors left open in the kitchen, pictures that are not straight, but with all this he does have a heart of gold. Glad he could spend some time with you both.

Peanut butter on a cupboard or two was his way of saying “I feel comfortable and loved.” Now he’s sharing that love with you both. A true gift!

I met Patti Friesen this evening. She asked about you and Galen and sends her greetings. She was so very glad that she ran into you at RUH.
We continue to think of you.

Hi both- we do enjoy reading your updates and how something seems to be able to lift your spirits and thank heavens for these rays of sunshine! John was saying last night we’d really like to pop in in passing but don’t want to intrude on precious family time. If it is better to keep in the loop this way through the blog, feel free to say, we don’t want to be a burden XXX

So good to connect with you Rebecca. You are going through so much yet you give me a lift every time I talk to you. Stay strong and positive but here for you if you need a shoulder. Hugs to Galen. I could use a”pink lady” some days too. But the real one.
