Rearranging the Furniture, Part II

on September 7th, 2017 by Rebeccca

Who would have thought one could write two blog posts on rearranging the furniture?

Today some friends dropped in for a visit and I took advantage of the extra help to do a little tweaking of the furniture arrangement. Now, as I finished sorting through all the magazines that had been stacked on a lower shelf, I had to wonder why it felt so good. Perhaps it is feeling like I am in control of my life. My life, right now, in my living room.

This morning about 9:00 I went down to the hospital to get Galen’s medications for the day. He was feeling so weak, so I left him at home. As I arrived, I met his doctor walking from the hospital to the clinic. He said the blood work that they had done yesterday showed Galen’s sodium was low, so he had ordered a 4-hour IV of sodium. So I went home and got Galen and delivered him to the hospital. They finished the 4-hour IV, tested his blood (amazing what they can discover with just a little blood) and now he is on another batch.

So he has spent the day in the hospital. Tethered to an IV pump. Totally out of control. And I have been back and forth (it’s like a four-minute drive) feeling out of control. Until I sit in my rearranged living room. Here everything is orderly and it feels good. Maybe a different end table beside Galen’s chair. And I need to get rid of that African Violet that has managed to not grow or bloom for one year. Yes, I can do those things. I am in control here.

Yes you are! Keep doing what you can, it helps. Then if that doesn’t work, try the porch & a glass of wine. Problems always seem smaller outside, more room to reframe the mind, Hugs to you both.

It is so difficult when you are back and forth and things are so out of your control, especially when one likes to be in control and you cannot control what is happening. Just control what you can and let others control those things that are in their area of expertise. Praying for you and Galen. Continue to keep us updated.

Even the smallest measure of control helps in those challenging times – thinking of you with love and blessings -

Thinking of you both and sending good wishes for comfort and yes, ditch the African Violet. A friend of mine said there is no need to let bad plants control your home. Maybe keep a leaf to give it a new start? Love to you.

Great news that Galen is eating better. I’m so glad you are able to be at home together, even with the hospital trips. Hopefully that will improve soon with home care nurses.
I really appreciate your blog so I can follow you.
    Love to you both.
    Connie
